Eighty-six year old Stephen Antonakos, a New York-based Greek artist died on Aug. 17. Known for his abstract sculptures incorporating neon lights, Antonakos created public artworks for cities worldwide including Los Angeles, Tel Aviv, Tokyo and Athens. He is represented in many public institutions such as New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, the National Gallery in Washington, D.C., and museums of contemporary art in Athens and Thessaloniki. Antonakos participated in Documenta 6 (1977) and the 1997 Venice Biennale.
