Press Release

Diana Horowitz: Small Paintings
November 3 – December 18, 2020

Bookstein Projects is pleased to announce an exhibition of paintings by Diana Horowitz. This is the artist’s second solo show with Bookstein Projects.

This exhibition will feature over twenty small paintings executed by the artist over the last three years. Working in sizes of only a few inches in each direction (6 x 6 inches, 5 x 7 inches) the paintings are all created on-site. The locations of these paintings range from the Brooklyn waterfront and the channels of Bayonne, NJ,  to the rocky coastline and rolling hills of the small towns of Sicily. Whatever her subject matter, the artist is able to capture a serene, often ethereal, moment in time. Indeed, the paintings of barges creeping along the East River into port are able to slow down time in the same way the canvases from Sicily are able to capture the fleeting moments of Mediterranean sun bathing the hills of Ragusa. Horowitz’s soft geometry, keen sense of color and innate sense of light work together harmoniously in these small but impactful works.

Diana Horowitz (b. 1958, New York) did graduate studies at the Tyler School of Art Program in Rome, and received her MFA from Brooklyn College. She has received numerous grants and awards, including those from the Ballinglen Foundation, the American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, and the Ingram Merrill Foundation. In 2005 she was elected a member of the National Academy of Design, New York. Horowitz’s work is found in numerous private and public collections, and has been widely exhibited in San Francisco, Houston, Chicago, Boston, and New York. The artist lives and works in New York.

Diana Horowitz: Small Paintings will be on view from November 3 – December 18, 2020. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm and by appointment.
