Hiroyuki Hamada: New Work
March 10 – April 29, 2022
"There is no inherent rule against expressing an existential condition of humanity and nature as long as the captured dynamics somehow echo its essence. It can be manifested as a poem, but it can also be manifested as a revolution and all things in between. It’s about embracing life and celebrating it.”
– Hiroyuki Hamada, 2022
Bookstein Projects is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent work by Hiroyuki Hamada. This is the artist’s fifth show with the gallery.
Hiroyuki Hamada: New Work will feature four paintings and two sculptures which were made over the last three years. In the two-dimensional and three-dimensional work alike, the artist combines geometric and biomorphic abstractions to create compositions that are unidentifiable yet deeply felt. The artist employs a nuanced mixture of acrylic, charcoal, enamel, graphite and oil to create finely textured surfaces. While Hamada’s palette is typically restricted to black and white with touches of umber, these recent paintings are executed in vibrant colorations including cobalt blue, saffron yellow and blood red.
A full-color catalog with texts by the artist will be published on occasion of the exhibition.
